During our training sessions we have been showing an example of good use of technology in a Primary school classroom using Skype and Movie Maker.

Many people have asked about the "Celeste is my Aunty" video that we present, so for those who are interested in learning a little about Tajikistan you can find the video clip here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ds70EeeKRtU

Here is some background information....

Celeste is my Aunty

She lives in Tajikistan which is in Central Asia.  Tajikistan is a very interesting place with many different cultures inside one country.  Tajikistan borders: Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan and China.

Celeste lives in Tajikistan because she works there as a development humanitarian worker for the United Nations Development Programme.  She has been there for 6 months.  Her job is writing documents and helping local Tajik people to work on programs which help the rural poor to get the essential things we need in life like: safe drinking water, electricity, jobs to earn money to support their families, education for kids like us, helping girls and boys to have the same opportunities in life like getting an education, and living in safe areas because Tajikistan often has natural disasters like mud slides and earthquakes.

Most people that live in Tajikistan have Tajik ethnicity and their religion is mostly Sunni muslim.  Some people are Ismaili (also in Afghanistan and Pakistan) and their religion is Shiah muslim.

Generally speaking, Celeste reckons that people in Tajikistan are warm and friendly, especially in the countryside.  When Celeste has been to the countryside, and although she can't even speak the language, the local people always invite her in to their home for food and chai (tea).  This great hospitality and kindness has helped Celeste to realize that people from all over the world are the same & and kindness can be found in every country in the world.
